JOSHUA TREE MUSIC FESTIVAL LETS IN THE LIGHT

Joshua Tree Music Festival Lets in the Light: The Joshua Tree Music Fest returns this weekend — May 12-15 — for a lineup that includes the California Honeydrops, Neal Francis, Cimafunk, Gone Gone Beyond, Thumpasaurus, and more as they celebrate their 20th anniversary.

The first Joshua Tree Music Festival took place in the spring of 2003 with a second annual event added in the fall of 2006. It’s taken place twice a year since then.

“About 400 funsters joined our first gathering in 2003,” said festival founder Barnett English. “Lots of lovely local (soon-to-be) friends came out en masse to help make it all happen. We had just moved to town, strangers basically. Yet everyone came out to build, paint, create, and organize. It was truly amazing and the deep sense of community remains a pillar of the Joshua Tree Music Festival experience.”

This year’s spring edition has a theme of “Let in the Light.”

“We’ve chosen the theme ‘Let in the Light’ for this May’s festival,” said co-producer Cassie Morrow. “It seems fitting as we emerge from the heaviness of the last couple of years. We want to remind people of the importance and power of sharing love and laughter, gathering as a community, dancing, and releasing together.”

The lineup includes: The California Honeydrops, Cimafunk, Neal Francis, Gone Gone Beyond, Thumpasaurus, DJ Dan, 79rs, Sofaz, Adam Freeland, Banda Sin Nombre, Sunny War, The Seshen, Kate Vargas, House of Hamsa (Live DJ set), Mikey Reyes’ Beats & Rhymes, Gorangutang, and Father Taj.
